Strata's Interns Soak Up the Knowledge
Strata’s summer crop of interns has been spending time in every department throughout the company, making each experience very unique. To learn what they’ve been up to this summer, we spotlighted Louis “Cuffie” Winkler, a joint MBA-MEM candidate at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment. Winkler has been working in the structured finance group, learning how to manage the reconciliation of revenue and expenses on a solar farm. And since each fund is structured slightly differently, it takes a well-trained eye to understand the intricacies of the farms' cash flow, from confirming power purchase agreement (PPA) revenue and REC payments to tracing revenue through a fund’s cash flow waterfall.
“I am confident that my time at Strata will be instrumental in continuing to develop my career in the renewable energy industry,” said Winkler.

“The sheer complexity of many of the deals Strata does is considerable. The opportunity to dive into both the legal framework and and the financials is critical to developing an understanding of what enables Strata, and others in the industry, to profitably develop utility scale solar farms. I am sure this understanding will be a valuable asset as refine my career path.”
Wishing you all the best of luck, Cuffie. We’ll be watching!
