Businessweek – Tenn. solar farms planned for McNairy
SELMER, Tenn. (AP) — McNairy County could soon be home to the two largest solar energy installations in Tennessee.
According to a news release from the Tennessee Valley Authority, Chapel Hill, N.C.,-based Strata Solar is planning to build two 20-megawatt solar farms near Selmer.
Current plans call for the solar farms to have more than 160,000 solar panels on over 300 acres. That will make each farm four times bigger than the largest current solar installation on the TVA system.
TVA will buy the electricity generated from the panels at market rates under its Renewable Standard Offer program.
The two installations could generate enough electricity to power 4,000 homes.
But first the plan must pass an environmental review and interconnection study. TVA is accepting public comments at www.tva.com/environment/reports/strata/index.htm.
